GCC Secretary-General Condemns UN Resolution Failure on Strait of Hormuz

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Muhammad Al-Badi, expressed his utmost condemnation and strong denunciation of the failure of the United Nations Security Council to adopt a draft resolution aimed at immediately halting threats targeting the freedom of navigation and security of global trade in the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement published on the General Secretariat's website, it was confirmed that the non-adoption of this project directly contributes to encouraging and perpetuating the reprehensible Iranian aggressions against the freedom of navigation and the safety of ships, which constitutes a blatant violation of international law and a serious threat to global economic stability. The Secretary-General stressed that the Strait of Hormuz must remain an open and secure international waterway, free from any threats or restrictions, asserting that any attempts to impose a fait accompli by force or to exploit it as a tool of political pressure is an unacceptable and condemned behavior regionally and internationally. He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the Security Council and the responsible and appreciated diplomatic efforts it made by presenting the draft resolution to counter these threats, and praised the support of all GCC member states and friendly countries for these efforts, including the vast majority of the Security Council member states. The Secretary-General confirmed that GCC states will continue to coordinate their positions and actions in a collective and firm manner to support international efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz and ensure freedom of navigation therein, with the aim of restoring global economic health and safeguarding the vital interests of the peoples of the region and the world, which depend on this international waterway.
